ASUU strike: UNIBEN reopens on Sunday

After an eight-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities was suspended, students at the University of Benin were told they may return to class starting on Sunday, in accordance with the institution’s revised academic schedule.

Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the university’s official spokeswoman, released the following statement on Wednesday: “The University of Benin Senate has altered the Institution’s 2020/2021 academic calendar and authorized Sunday, October 23, 2022, for students to return to halls of residence.”

Since the Second Semester was cut short for eight months due to the recent suspension of the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, classes are slated to resume on October 24. As of the 23rd of December, the semester will have officially ended.

“In the meanwhile, new students admitted for the 2021/2022 school year can register online beginning on December 2.

Professor Lilian Salami, the university’s vice chancellor, urged all faculty and students to work together for the benefit of academic accomplishment.
