Defend your votes, yourselves, CAN youths tell Nigerians
On Sunday, a group of young Christians headed by the Christian Association of Nigeria Youth Wing urged their fellow countrymen not to be used as political thugs in the next 2023 general election, but rather to protect their ballots and ensure that they accurately represent the will of the people.
The group urged the public to protect themselves against assassins in any form, while also condemning election violence.
Belusochukwu Enwere, national chairman of YOWICAN, issued the recommendation in a statement released in Abuja. He added that the group will launch a worldwide peace campaign against electoral violence throughout the country as a significant player in the election process.
He urged his countrymen to “grab the horns” of peace and make it a priority at every level.
As the 2023 general election approaches, Enwere said, “As we all know, the country is plagued by insecurity of varied degrees, including abduction, banditry, herdsmen, mysterious gunmen, etc.
In any case, the next general election in 2023 is not far off, and politics are already quite contentious. Campaigning for several offices has already begun. Peace must be pursued relentlessly on every front and no matter the cost. We must also caution political parties that this is a game, not a brawl, and they should play by the rules.
This election season, Nigerians, particularly young people, will not stand for being exploited as a tool for thuggery or bloodshed.
Security officers, ladies, ministers, and politicians who narrowly avoid murder every day are all contributing to the tragic loss of our nation’s youth.
The culture of Nigeria is famed for its tradition of enduring peace, but we can’t allow things to remain as they are.
“Therefore, beginning Monday, October 24, 2022, YOWICAN will begin sensitization on global peace campaign (crusade) to all the zones, states, local governments, and ward levels for a peaceful 2023 general election and post election, as well as to important stakeholders, actors, and political parties.
The public will benefit greatly from “this sensitisation worldwide peace effort,” which aims to “inform, enlighten, and make significant influence.”
