Fans kick against Iwobi right-back role
Fans took to social media following Everton’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening to criticise Frank Lampard’s choice to put Super Eagles player Alex Iwobi at right back.
Fans believe that the Toffees’ loss against Spurs was due to Lampard’s placement of Iwobi in a position where he was unable to express his creativity.
Iwobi was on the field for 90 minutes, but he was unable to save Everton from suffering another Premier League loss.
The Toffees had hoped to return to winning ways against Spurs after suffering a 2-1 loss to Manchester United in their previous Premier League outing; instead, they suffered yet another loss.
Kieren@Stotty101 tweeted, “Iwobi is playing RWB again, did we not notice last week that he cannot play that position?”
Other supporters said that placing the 26-year-old in the incorrect position rendered him useless and cost Everton the game.
Claydey@Stoner VW wrote, “Lampard should’ve retained Iwobi in midfield. His effectiveness at right back is diminished.”
Your Auto Sales Representative @Layqan added, “Lampard drops Iwobi to RB yet again….clearly this guy doesn’t learn, and it will likely cost him if he continues. You’re dropping your most creative midfielder to right back because you need a goal.”
Jacob @efcjacobz “Playing Iwobi at right back is a waste, as he is excellent at stringing passes together; why move him out of the midfield?”
Lotanna @LotannaDinho questioned the decision to put the Nigerian in the incorrect position, asking, “Why is Iwobi playing right back when his team is trailing by a goal?”
Everton repelled Tottenham’s attacks in the first half, as the score remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
Kane shattered the Toffees’ resistance from the penalty spot after England teammate Jordan Pickford fouled him in the penalty area after failing to stop Matt Doherty’s shot.
The late second goal was scored by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with a curling shot that took a tiny deflection off of Alex Iwobi.
Wednesday, Everton will travel to St. James’s Park to face Newcastle.
