In 1968, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Swedish central bank, Alfred Nobel founded the Nobel Economics Prize, the only Nobel Prize that was not first included in his 1895 will.
Only two women have won the medal since it was originally given out in 1969, and Americans have dominated it ever since.
