Netflix 1899’s trailer shows passengers boarding a mysterious ship.

if you are a fan of the Netflix show Dark, there are more terrifying episodes of the eerie German-language mystery series Dark coming your way from Netflix. The makers of Dark, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, are set to release the fairly intense looking 1899, and in preparation for this, the newest teaser has just arrived. The slogan for the advertisement reads, “What is lost will be found.”

When the migrant ship Kerberos sets sail on what is intended to be a straightforward journey from Southampton to New York City in the year 1899, the events of the series begin. The year seems reasonable enough. However, as you will have seen from what has been presented thus far, the journey is disrupted when the ship Prometheus, which had been presumed lost for a number of months, reappears. There is a diversion to intercept, but the result is not at all what one would call straightforward. Where has the ship Prometheus been hiding out? What do each of those symbols represent? The wind starts to howl in the distance as it blows outside in the cold. There is far too much confusion. Can’t get no relief.

1899

There are a few brief instances in the promotional material that give off a strong impression of Japanese horror, but there is also the ominous whiff of a Victorian Event Horizon. However, if you are familiar with Dark, you should be aware that you should anticipate the unexpected as Friese and Odar’s most recent nightmare plays out. In Greek mythology, the entrance to Hades is guarded by a dog named Kerberos, which has multiple heads. And Prometheus is the unfortunate celestial being who attempted to steal fire from the other gods and was punished for his actions by being sentenced to an eternity of misery because of it. What you will of that is entirely up to you…

Andreas Pietschmann, who also appeared in Dark, is one of the members of the cast of 1899, which also features Emily Beecham, Anton Lesser, Aneurin Barnard, Miguel Bernardeau, and Maciej Musia. The first episode of the eight-part series will debut on Netflix on November 17.
