Google will end Stadia and give users their money back.

Google has announced that it will be terminating its Stadia cloud gaming service at the beginning of the following year.

It was first introduced three years ago and let gamers to play games without the need for a console by streaming them to their TV, laptop, or phone.

However, Google stated that it had to make this “tough decision” because the feature “hadn’t gained the traction with users that we expected.”

According to a blog post written by boss Phil Harrison, the Stadia store has been shut down, and customers who have made purchases of hardware, games, and add-on content will be refunded.

Stadia Pro subscriptions, on the other hand, will not be eligible for a refund.

According to what he said, “Players will continue to have access to their games library and play until January 18, 2023 so that they can finish off their final play sessions.”

“By the middle of January 2023, we anticipate having finished the vast bulk of the returns,”

Stadia last year closed its own in-house games development unit but insisted the platform was “alive and well” with over 100 games launching – that was until this week’s announcement.

Google said it remained “deeply committed to gaming” and would “continue to invest in new tools, technologies and platforms”.
