I won’t govern from Dubai, Tinubu mocks Atiku

On Sunday afternoon in Kano, All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu promised to give his whole focus to helping the people of Nigeria if elected.

This came as the ex-governor of Lagos State made fun of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, Atiku Abubakar, by promising that, unlike Abubakar, he would not spend half his time as president in Dubai.

This information was shared with the public in a statement issued by Tinubu’s Media Officer, Tunde Rahman, in Abuja immediately after his meeting with members of the well followed Tijjaniyyah sect in Kano.

Part of the declaration said, “I will not be a President who divides his time between Dubai and Nigeria.” I will focus my efforts on finding solutions to Nigeria’s most urgent problems.

Just two months before, Tinubu’s running partner, Senator Kashim Shettima, had mocked the outgoing vice president by calling him a “political tourist” who only came back to the nation during election seasons.

Shettima remarked that Nigerians needed a leader whose value and production could be felt at home, and he praised Atiku as a father figure.

The Tijjaniyyah sect, who endorsed Tinubu on Sunday, have asked for Tinubu’s presidency to guarantee that members of their sect are included in cabinet and other government appointments, that Hajj fees are lowered, and that work on the currently under construction Tijjaniyyah University in Kano is completed.

Tinubu responded by saying that President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent unveiling of Tinubu’s agenda satisfied their demands (retd.).

While speaking to northern business executives, Tinubu made clear the importance of Kano to his economic strategy for Nigeria by citing the city’s status as a commercial hub.

He said, “My strategy for Nigeria is intricately connected to Kano’s role as a hub of economic growth. I promise a revitalized economy that will restore faith in our nation’s future. For the sake of our nation’s economic growth, we must foster a variety of thriving communities.

“Nigeria is a goldmine waiting to happen, as I highlighted in my address at the Arewa House on Monday. No Nigerian state is short on any necessary materials. Our nation is committed to discovering and developing these assets for the utmost benefit of its citizens. Some of Kano’s mineral resources include gold, silver, nickel, tin ore, and columbite, and the state’s agricultural potential is enormous. Each of these has the potential to contribute considerably to the national economy if we can figure out how to use it.
