The Effects of “Werewolf by Night” on the MCU

Werewolf by Night has at long last been added on Disney+, and its debut has been met with praise from both fans and critics. In addition to the titular monster, the monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone and the well-known cult icon Man-Thing are brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Halloween special. Both die-hard Marvel fans and those who aren’t familiar with the genre but are nonetheless looking for a nice old-fashioned monster movie throwback will be able to appreciate the self-contained story told in the black-and-white special because it stands on its own.

The black-and-white color presentation of the special sets it apart from everything else in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and it also makes it possible for there to be more graphic acts of violence and a little bit of gore.

In spite of the fact that it gives the impression of not having any major Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter eggs, connections, or overt setups for future projects (it doesn’t even include the typical Marvel Cinematic Universe after-credit scene), it does include a large number of smaller details that could possibly hint at where Marvel intends to take these monster characters in the future.

Because both Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing were given a prized location on a promotional poster for the upcoming Avengers attraction at Disney’s California Adventure, it is safe to assume that both characters will play an important role in the continuation of the franchise. The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is prepared in this manner by the events of Werewolf by Night.

Man-Thing

Although he is referred to as a “hunter” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation of Jack Russell, he is not your standard monster hunter.

In this instance, it is demonstrated that he safeguards and liberates beasts. Because of this, sooner or later he will find himself in direct opposition to Blade, the vampire hunter who will be portrayed by Mahershala Ali in the movie that Mahershala Ali will star in on his own.

What happens when a man who has devoted his life to hunting monsters and someone who has devoted his life to protecting monsters cross paths? Vampires and werewolves have inherent conflict built into them, but what happens when a man who has dedicated his life to hunting monsters meets someone who has devoted his life to protecting monsters? Both Blade and Werewolf by Night will probably get into a fight, but in the process, they will broaden each other’s perspectives.

Since Elsa now possesses the Bloodstone, it is highly likely that this will play a role in the resolution of this conflict.

In contrast to the other hunters, she appeared to be less interested in using its potential for power and more concerned with preventing her stepmother from gaining access to it.

It is not known whether Blade had any affiliations or connections to the people who were searching for bloodstones, but Elsa and Blade will definitely run into one other at some point.

Agatha Harkness became known to a wider audience thanks to Kathryn Hahn’s performance as her on the show WandaVision. Due to the character’s immense popularity, it was decided in 2021 that she would star in her very own television series, which would eventually be given the name Agatha Harkness: Coven of Chaos. Although the specific plot of the series has not yet been revealed, it is safe to assume that it will revolve upon Agatha’s background as a witch and the many years she spent practicing the craft across history.

Agatha might have met someone who resembles a younger version of Ulysses Bloodstone in the past, and that someone could make an appearance in this series. It is also possible that the roots of the character Werewolf by Night might be explored in this region.

The beginnings of the character often involve the Darkhold, which is the evil book that Agatha had in her possession when she was in WandaVision. Elsa Bloodstone might potentially make an appearance in the show as a recurring secondary character.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) got its first look at Dane Whitman in the movie “Eternals.” In the comics, Whitman assumes the identity of the super-hero Black Knight and becomes proficient with the mighty Ebony Blade sword.

Along with the off-screen voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade, the item was hinted at in the flicks following the credit scene. Dane Whitman comes from a family that has a strong connection to the old Ebony Blade, much like Elsa Bloodstone hails from a long line of brave monster hunters.

The first thing that the audience sees in Werewolf by Night is a drawing of a bunch of hunters, and one of them looks like a medieval knight. It’s possible that more than one member of the Whitman family legacy is the one who wielded the Ebony Blade. One possibility is Sir Raston, who lived between the late sixth and early seventh centuries and worked as an agent for Kang the Conqueror, the primary antagonist of the Multiverse Saga. In the past, the Ebony Blade may have been employed as a weapon for the purpose of slaying monsters.

If this is the case, then it is likely that Elsa Bloodstone, Jack Russell, or Man-Thing will become interested in it in a future MCU project.

The origins of Man-Thing in the comics have several connections to elements that have already become commonplace in the MCU. He was working on recreating the Super Soldier who inspired Captain America, his wife Ellen Brandt was a villain in Iron Man 3, and he was mentioned by name on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and depicted as a statue as one of the Grand Master’s former champions in Thor: Ragnarok. Moving forward, the Multiverse could reveal Man-true Thing’s purpose in the franchise.

Because it is a Nexus of Realities, the swamp that transforms Ted Salis into Man-Thing has magical properties in the comics.

Man-Thing takes on the role of Nexus guardian, preventing multiversal threats. With the cracks in realities caused by Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the multiverse needs a guardian to watch over it, and Man-Thing can step in to fill that void.

Phase 4 of the MCU has focused on the franchise’s supernatural side. WandaVision not only introduced the witch Agatha Harkness, but also delved into Wanda’s past as the Scarlet Witch, which was expanded on in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Moon Knight has close ties to a number of supernatural figures. Blade will have his own film, which will be released on November 3, 2023.

With Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone, Moon Knight, and Blade all now in the MCU, and rumors of Ghost Rider joining soon, it appears that Marvel is putting together a team of supernatural heroes.

While Legion of Monsters is a strong name, the inclusion of non-monsters such as Elsa Bloodstone and Moon Knight may imply a name that can welcome characters from all corners of the supernatural MCU.

Midnight Suns appears to be the frontrunner, as Marvel is about to give the title a major boost with the upcoming video game of the same name.

Werewolf by Night may suggest that the need for a supernatural team extends beyond protecting the normal world from the supernatural to protecting monsters from the threat of humans.

This unlikely group of heroes will most likely be crucial in the fight against Kang the Conqueror in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as well as major players in Avengers: Secret Wars.
