YouTube is now introducing ‘handles’ for channels and producers.
A handle, which is a fairly standard feature on social media networks, has been noticeably absent from YouTube.
You can either search for particular channels by name or receive those awful, jumbled channel URLs that are difficult to remember.
This is finally changing. YouTube is following in the footsteps of social networking platforms by making it easier for users and artists to identify themselves on the platform.
With “Handles,” creators will have a unique way of identifying themselves and distinguishing themselves from their peers on the video sharing social media network.
In a blog post, YouTube said that handles will be a “new way for consumers to easily find and communicate with creators and each other on YouTube.”
Handles will be unique and recognized for each channel (unlike channel names), and the @username will soon be used across YouTube Shorts, channel pages, and more. Indeed, YouTube claims that users will be able to give a shout-out to creators in comments, making it easier and faster to mention people in comments, community postings, or video descriptions.
A YouTube handle will not replace a channel name; rather, it will be another tool to help them reach new audiences and boost their visibility.
All YouTube channels are eligible for a handle. “We want to ensure creators can construct an identity as distinctive as their material while giving viewers confidence that they are interacting with their favorite creators,” YouTube stated in a blog post.
You’ll have to wait a little longer to use this function, as YouTube announced that it will gradually enable access to all YouTube channels to choose their handles over the next few weeks. Over the next month, creators will be alerted when they may choose a handle for their channel, so some artists will be allowed to choose their handles before others.
This will depend on a variety of criteria, including the platform’s general presence, the amount of subscribers, and if the channel is active.
After receiving the notification, Creaturs should go to youtube.com/handle to select their handles. If they do not choose one by November 14, they will be allocated handles based on their channel names automatically.
If your channel already has a personalized URL, that will become their default handle, and they will be given the chance to alter it once notified.
When they select a handle, YouTube will generate a matching URL to assist producers in conveniently directing viewers to their work.
