Apostle Suleman seeks IGP’s intervention, demands DPO’s prosecution

Apostle Johnson Suleman, president of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, has contacted Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba for help following the barbaric attack on the hiss convoy, which resulted in the deaths of three police officers, two drivers, and two civilians.

According to information acquired by Sunday PUNCH, CSP Ayodele Suleiman, the Divisional Police Officer in Auchi, shot and killed one of the attackers after being turned over to him alive by local youth and members of a vigilance group on the day of the attack.

Earlier, in response to a 42-second video clip showing the suspect’s body in a car, the priest lashed out at the police, saying that the tape was an attempt to cover up clues that may identify the perpetrators of the crime.

A tweet from him said, “Lies…”

No one was kidnapped… After he was captured and turned over to the authorities, they promptly shot and executed him. Why? In what way will a hasty execution help? Can you tell me who’s trying to hide evidence?

Suleman reacted to the news by having his advisor, Dickson Osajie, call for a board of enquiry to be established by the IGP in order to determine the motivations behind the DPO’s decision to remove the evidence that may help identify the perpetrators of the crime.

He remarked, “I do not expect a senior police officer that is properly trained at that level to erase actual evidence that may be utilized to track the other individuals. The IGP should immediately have the DPO arrested and convene a board of enquiry to determine what could have possibly prompted a police station’s DPO to resort to such a heinous act as shooting and killing a suspect.

By killing the suspect, the DPO has also destroyed crucial evidence and made it clear that he does not want the public to know the truth. He has effectively put an end to the probe by erasing all traces of it. What kind of law enforcement is this? The DPO’s actions disgraced the Nigeria Police Force, thus I’ll recommend that the IGP have him jailed right now.

Does anybody know if Evans survived when Abba Kyari arrested him, or if he was killed off? It wasn’t the case that he was. How exactly do you plan on killing a suspect in broad daylight after catching him red-handed? And why? Eight people were slain in an attack on a public figure, a suspect was apprehended alive, and he killed the suspect. It was done on purpose as a glitch in the system.

The issue should be taken up by the Edo State Police Commissioner, who should have the DPO arrested without delay and ask him to explain why he shot and killed the suspect. Before destroying the suspect’s phone, the DPO must hand it over.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Iwegbu, the state’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement released on Saturday that the DPO was removed after being asked to do so by Commissioner of Police AIG Abutu Yaro as part of the measures to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of one of the remaining members of the gang that attacked the cleric’s convoy on Friday.

According to the release, “the departing CP, now AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered the withdrawal of CSP Ayodele Suleiman, DPO Auchi, for debriefing at the state headquarters with immediate effect.” We asked the public to be patient and calm while we investigated, and we promised that nothing would be overlooked.

Suleman’s lawyer, Samuel Amune, also spoke, calling for a full inquiry and said, “One of the lads (suspects) was seized yesterday by vigilantes and he was given over alive to the Auchi Police Division. But oddly, the next thing we heard was that the cops shot him to death, and we have no idea what transpired in between. Since no one from the youth group stormed the police station, I have no idea what excuse the police will come up with later to justify shooting him.

The Response of the Police
As the incident fell under the jurisdiction of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, declined to comment.

Since the matter is beyond of my remit, he asked that I get in touch with the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Command.

Meanwhile, Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesman for the Edo police, criticized the use of a bus to transport the cleric’s security aides, calling it “unprofessional” and “unacceptable” in the context of security.

According to Nwabuzor, “the vehicle that the armed guards — the cops — ought to have utilized is a Hilux, the open van with a roof so that they can see all sides.” Instead, the guards rode in a bus that was covered and secured. Since we don’t have our own vehicles, we’re forced to abide by the VIPs’ rules, which goes against the ethics of security, and we ask the Federal Government to investigate this.

However, the state PPRO characterized claims that the suspect was given over to the police alive and shot dead by a policeman as an attempt to tarnish the efforts of the police during the incident.

Further, he said, “We have heard the claims of a cover-up by the police making the rounds. But in this instance, three law enforcement officers were killed. If the divisional police officer had nothing to hide, why would he want to hide the fact that his men had been murdered? Therefore, I do not believe the claim to be accurate. Although this is only an accusation, it deserves investigation.

One of our correspondents, however, just learned that life in Auchi had returned to normal. A group of local teenagers reportedly visited the cleric’s home and staged a vigil to show their support.

It’s business as usual in town, and we spent Friday night at the apostle’s home. We spontaneously made our way to his residence to express our sorrow for his loss. All of us were there, and we shared a gloomy, miserable feeling. Those with severe expressions were also present. We can only pray that this kind of thing never happens again. The insider said, “I just can’t fathom anyone going after another person’s life.”
