Wike returns, seeks apology over Atiku’s comment
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers State, has added fuel to the fire by demanding an apology from the People’s Democratic Party over an allegedly divisive remark made by the party’s presidential standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar.
After a brief journey to Spain, Governor Wike addressed the crowd at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The governor of Rivers state, together with his colleagues Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, and Samuel Ortom of Benue state, had flown to Spain (Benue).
You may remember Atiku declaring, “I know the totality of this country.” I’ve been able to unite different parts of the country through constructing bridges.
What the average northerner really needs, in my opinion, is a northerner who is well-versed in and able to communicate with people from other parts of Nigeria. The northerner absolutely requires this.
Neither a Yoruba nor an Igbo candidate is necessary for him (the northerner). The northerner absolutely requires this. Here before you, as a pan-Nigerian of northern descent, I declare my allegiance.
Wike, who cast doubt on the authenticity of Atiku’s statement, argued that such a stance during a time of transition for the country lends voice to the need for fairness and justice.
To avoid having Nigerians see the PDP, which is angling to take office in 2023, as insensitive and lacking the fairness it preaches, the governor said the party must address the issue as soon as possible.
