Real Madrid defeat Barcelona 3-1 in El Clásico clash
El Clásico was played on Sunday, and Real Madrid came out on top with a 3-1 victory, giving them a huge three points over their La Liga rivals, Barcelona.
This victory keeps Real Madrid unbeaten and gives them a three-point lead over Barcelona, who have already lost their first league game of the season.
As Barcelona battled to get back into the game after falling behind early on, Karim Benzema’s 11th-minute goal provided a huge boost for Real Madrid.
Barcelona possessed 57% control and attempted 18 more shots than Madrid, yet they were still unable to win. Only one goal, scored by Ferran Torres in the 83rd minute, came from their work.
The goals scored by Federico Valverde (in the 34th minute) and Rodrygo (in the 90th minute) were additional blows to Barcelona.
A former Madrid striker noted, “What stood out to me was the solidarity between the players and the spectators” after their side won the Clásico. When we didn’t have the ball, we played as a tight unit.
Barcelona had extended stretches of possession, but we shut down their space, helped each other out, and hurt them on the break when we had the ball. A superb showing by all accounts.
