ASUU to sue FG over Registration of CONUA, NAMDA
Academic Staff Union of Universities will sue the Federal Government over the registration of Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics and National Association of Medical and Dental Academics.
Thursday, ASUU’s attorney, Femi Falana, stated this on Channels Television.
Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, awarded CONUA and NAMDA with registration certificates on Tuesday.
Ngige, speaking as he presented the certificate of registration to the two unions, emphasized that the two organizations will coexist with ASUU.
Falana told Channels Television that ASUU would fight the federal government over the two unions’ registration.”ASUU will be taking legal action. Falana confirmed that the NIC was going to be used.
AÂ former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, accused Ngige of complicated issues in an interview with Arise Television. Jega was quoted saying that Ngige was making things more difficult.
ASUU has challenged the verdict of the industrial court, and in the meantime, he has registered two unions while attempting to proscribe ASUU. “He took the matter to the industrial court, and the result has been contested by ASUU. “If this is allowed by this government, I think it is a recipe for disaster, and it may truly cause more difficulties than it can solve on this matter of strike action,” Jega was quoted as saying before.
